Getting married at Holy Trinity or St Peter’s Church
Today there are many different venues in which you can celebrate your marriage. However, we believe that the Church has something very special to offer you:
- A beautiful and historic setting where many other couples have married over the centuries.
- The support of a caring team of individuals who will guide you through the process of preparing for your marriage. Our team includes the clergy; our organists; flower arrangers and others.
- The opportunity to have some of those extras which no other venue can provide such as the church bells rung before and after your service.
- Help and advice in making your day special and in creating the unique service you want.
- Holy Trinity is a licensed building and it is possible for us to provide drinks and canapés for your guests whilst the photographs are taken.
- St Peter’s is also licenced and offers a wonderful and adaptable space, which might, for instance, also include your reception.
Who can get married in church?
In the past there were many different rules about where people could get married. Whilst some rules still apply it is now much simpler. If you live in the parish of Holy Trinity and St. Peter or have a family link with the parish it will probably be possible for you to get married here.
The Church recognises that in spite of our best efforts relationships sometimes fail. It is now possible, depending upon the individual circumstances, for those who have previously been married to have a wedding in Church. Even when it is not possible for a further marriage to be celebrated in Church we can often provide a service of blessing.
How much will it cost?
Marriage in Church is no more expensive than in many of the other venues and may be considerably cheaper. The costs include:
- The compulsory legal fees (£510 in 2021)
- A fee of £15 for the services of the verger (who helps prepare the Church for your wedding)
- Between September and April we ask for a contribution towards heating costs of £20.00 for weddings.
All the other charges are ‘extras’ for you to choose:
- Bells: £120.00
- Organist: £110.00*
*An additional fee will be charged if there is to be a professional video of your service.

Marriage Preparation Course
This Parish, in conjunction with others in the Mission Community, offers a short and lively course which explains marriage. It also gives a chance to meet other couples who are about to be married. Please speak to clergy about forthcoming dates.
Both churches are open during the day; please feel free to visit both buildings to decide which would best suit your requirements.
Trinity Rooms
Trinity Rooms are an ideal venue for your wedding reception. Our beautifully renovated 1862 building offers two independent halls with a fully equipped kitchen and multi-media system.
Wedding weekends are £300 or can be hired by the hour. Rates will be discounted for couples being married at Holy Trinity or St Peter’s church.
